Chilkur: ‘JATAYU Army’, a volunteer group to protect women and girls against atrocities, will be launched on Tuesday at the front hall of the Balaji temple. Special rituals will be performed on sacred threads to be tied on the wrists of women and girls on this event. “This is the symbolic launch of JATAYU Sena, a large army for the protection of girls and women. Any male member can become Jatayu. He needs to be proactive in preventing the crime against girls,” said temple priest Rangarajan. He said this endeavour is the continuation to the Rakhee Challenge organised last year. The idea came from thousands of devotees who have been a part of sensitisation campaign and many suggested that just as rapists and molesters should be made afraid of punitive action from the Jatayus, he said. He reminded that Jatayu fought with Ravana to prevent Sita from being abducted.
